With over 25 years of experience working with children, youth, adults, and families, Sharyn is a skilled clinician and advocate for her patients. She practices from strengths-based, relational, and holistic perspectives to help people live the lives they prefer to live. She is also interested in the neuroplasticity of the brain and supports people in understanding some of the biology behind becoming healthier and happier.
Sharyn is curious and has a passion for learning. She is fascinated by the connections between physical and mental health. She enjoys teaching clients how to relax by understanding their autonomic nervous system and supporting parents to use a “whole brain” approach with their children. She encourages using creativity to stimulate both sides of the brain and promote inter-hemispheric communication, which can lead to changes in the brain. Sharyn is excited to be part of Tall Tree’s diverse, multi-disciplinary team, where health and wellness include the whole person.
Sharyn is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Narrative Therapy; Emotion Focused Therapy; Family Systems Therapy; and Expressive Arts Therapies, including Play Therapy. She takes a compassionate and client-centered approach to her practice and draws upon various modalities depending on the individual’s or family’s needs.
Sharyn holds a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Campus Alberta (University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, and Athabasca University) and is a Registered Psychologist in BC (#2489) and Alberta (#4109).
Born and raised in Alberta, Sharyn moved to Vancouver Island with her husband and dog, Chloe, to live closer to family and enjoy the wonderful ocean and landscapes. She feels lucky to continue pursuing her passion for partnering with others in their wellness journeys.
